What's 3D Printing?
3D printing in simple terms is crafting things with layers of plastic. At Buttercup Pet Products we use a material called PLA (Polylactic Acid) which is a special kind of plastic that's made from plants, which is really cool! It's good for the environment and safe to use for the applications we use it for here at Buttercup Pet Products. The type of 3D printers we use operate using a technology called Fused Deposition Modelling, or FDM for short. This basically means the things they create are printed using hundreds of fine layers of plastic. 3D printing machines are now widely used in all aspects of manufacturing and engineering and are rapidly becoming the go to choice for when someone wants to make a computer design a reality!
Why PLA is Awesome:
PLA is easy to work with, it comes in lots of colors, and you can make all kinds of things with it, from our Bottle Holder to our Hay Rack. It has great strength and is good for making a wide veracity of cool things, whilst also having the environment in mind!
Making Things with FDM and PLA:
The process begins when we design our product in CAD (Computer Aided Design). We then run these digital models through a programme that turns them into G code. G code is the language the 3D printers understand meaning they can then interpret the model in every way. They then get to work and layer by layer, a Buttercup Pet Product is created!
Helping the Earth and Looking Forward:
FDM 3D printing with PLA is like using Earth-friendly magic. People are always trying to make PLA even better and stronger. So, if you want to have a more convenient and easier way of looking after your pet, you can rest assured when you buy one of our products, your keeping the planet in mind!
